Victor Watson- Huddersfield Town Crier

 Black Cat and Standard Fireworks were pleased to support Huddersfield’s official Town Crier, Victor Watson.  Victor was arranging to host a fireworks display for a group of elderly ladies in his area and wanted our help to add a few extra surprises.  Victor visited our factory Shop to collect his donation for a display at the weekend and stated:

“I thought putting on a firework display would be a nice treat for ladies in my area and this donation will help make it extra special.”

Robert Warner, a chef by trade has won our competition to win a fantastic firework display of ÂŁ550 worth of fireworks.

When told he had won Robert commented:

“I am delighted to have won, we were quite worried about Bonfire night this year, what with the credit crunch and two children- but now we will be able to have a big family firework party and invite the whole family round!”

Well done Robert, and thanks to everyone who entered the competition.

Black Cat and Standard Firework’s charity item was yesterday featured in Huddersfield’s Daily Examiner. All proceeds from the charity item, Golden Bees priced at just £1 will be donated to Huddersfield based charity, Kirkwood Hospice. The featured photograph was taken at our Crosland Hill Factory Shop where the product is on sale, and we are all hoping that the feature will help boost sales of the item and bring us closer to the estimated £7000 donation.

 

Black Cat and Standard Fireworks are aiming to donate more than £7,000 to the Dalton based charity, Kirkwood Hospice by donating 100% of all sales of the charity item “ Golden Bees” which goes on sale at 10am on Friday 23rd October in the Factory Shop. The product, Golden Bees is a hummer mine that throws out spinning gold whistles and will be on sale from the 23rd of October to the 7th of November, priced at £1 each at the Standard Fireworks Factory Shop. We’ve been through a lot over the last 118 years at Black Cat and Standard Fireworks, from aiding efforts in the First and Second World War to designing and importing over 17 million innovative and exciting fireworks every year.  With years worth of knowledge and experience it’s no wonder we’re the UK’s leading firework brand!

Standard Fireworks was the brainchild of Yorkshire draper James Greenhalgh. Established in 1891, Standard Fireworks moved to its Crosland Hill site in Huddersfield in 1910 where it now covers over 100 acres.
During both the First and Second World Wars production switched to munitions and became an essential part of the war effort.
The post-war years brought further expansion and the company was floated on the Stock Market in 1959. In 1988 Standard Fireworks bought the old established Scottish based Brocks Fireworks Ltd, seeing all fireworks production transferred to Yorkshire.
During the 1980s and 1990s Standard Fireworks became a major employer in the Yorkshire region with a 500 strong workforce. 1998 saw the purchase of Standard Fireworks by the Chinese based Black Cat Fireworks. As the largest manufacturer of fireworks in the world, Black Cat switched firework manufacture to China.

The Huddersfield site is now the UK headquarters for Black Cat and acts as the Sales, Marketing and Distribution centre for both Black Cat and Standard product ranges.
Continued investment in new product development, logistics, sales and marketing have ensured Standard Fireworks will remain the leading family favourite firework brand in the UK. Black Cat has established itself as the brand leader for fireworks enthusiastic and continues to produce innovative ranges.
